Our History

Run for Life was founded as a Canadian based non-profit organization in 2002. From a single training group in Cambridge Ontario, Run for Life volunteers started to facilitate a host of programs in a number of Waterloo Region locations.

In 2004 we launched the Cambridge Classic Mile, a series of one mile races on the historic track at Galt Collegiate.  This race is a tribute to Roger Bannister’s 1954 sub-4 mile, an event Sports Illustrated called, “the greatest athletic achievement of the 20th century”.

Run for Life recognized the school as a hub in the community and we strategically developed our programs to support teachers and parent volunteers.

Run for Life launched Sparks Fly in 2010. This program brings stationary bikes into classroom settings to foster active learning. To date we have deployed almost 6000 stationary bikes.

For the past decade a number of Run for Life volunteers have traveled to rural Kenya to support community based projects and to run with the Kenyans!  Run for Life funded programs support education, water resources, agriculture, sustainable tourism, and business development.

In 2017 we brought the Reckless Raven to life in Canada’s north. This 80km ultra and relay showcases some of the beautiful trails and alpine settings surrounding Whitehorse, Yukon. It is one tough race!
