The Cambridge Classic Mile and Run For Life Spring Celebration Results

Wow what a great day!

Run For Life Spring Celebration
Not only was the weather amazing but so were the volunteers, teachers and students.  The day started before the sunrise for some volunteers to make sure GCI’s track was ready for the 900+ students were going to throw at it.  Thanks to all the volunteers, parents and teachers (from the 16 schools in attendance) that were on hand to help make this years Spring Celebration a wonderful day.  See you in the fall for the cross country event!

The Cambridge Classic Mile
With the return of the Cambridge Classic Mile to the red brick track of GCI it was great to see some local speedsters showing up to make for some exciting races.  With local school kids starting the event (some of which ran with us during the day) we were treated to some young talent and the joy of running at a young age.  As the evening went on the races got faster. The end of the night saw racers and spectators join together on the track to do a lap to show their support for the Lydia Herrle and her family.  A special thank you needs to go out to all those that donated to the #runforlydia campaign that helped raise over $800 for the family.

I think the day was summed up for me when a little girl from Silverheights PS came up to me and said “I want to say thank you.” I asked what for, she replied “I go to church with Lydia and I want to say thanks for raising money for her.”

Results for both the daytime Spring Celebration and the Cambridge Classic Mile races can be found on our results page.  There was also a great write up on Thursday in the Cambridge Times leading up to the mile that may be of interest.
